Interested in getting involved with the Four Lakes Traditional Music Cooperative and participating in the planning of events like the Sugar Maple Music Festival? We are always looking for potential members of our Board of Directors.

Backyard board meeting!

Role of the Board:
We believe the Board’s role is to remain true to its mission by supporting and promoting American roots music in and around Madison, WI. The board has a fiduciary responsibility to the organization and, ultimately, to the larger community. The board will ensure that the organization secures the resources needed to accomplish its mission, vision, and goals and that those resources are utilized in a reasonable, appropriate, and legally accountable manner. The board functions as fundraisers and programming and receives no compensation.

Term:
The term of each Director shall be at least three years. Terms of Directors shall be staggered. The term of a Director begins immediately upon election.

Board powers and duties:

  • Elect officers
  • Set policies governing the activities of the corporation
  • Handle the affairs of the corporation
  • Supervise the activities of the corporation
  • Plan the future goals of the corporation consistent with its mission, objectives, and values.

Officers:

  1. President: The President shall be the chief officer of this Board. The President shall be a Director of the corporation. The President shall supervise the general activities of the corporation, subject to supervision of the Board. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Board.
  2. The Vice-President: The Vice-President shall be a Director of the corporation. The Vice-President shall assume the duties of the President in the absence or incapacity of the President.
  3. Secretary: The Secretary shall maintain or cause to be maintained all records of the corporation and shall prepare or cause to be prepared minutes of all meetings of the Board of Directors.
  4. Treasurer: The Treasurer shall have custody of the funds of the corporation and shall maintain all financial records of the corporation. The Treasurer shall report to the President and Board of Directors on the financial status of the corporation.

Board Member Time Commitment:
Board meetings are scheduled as needed and run one and a half to two hours long. The meetings are in the evening and start in late August or September (post festival). In January, meetings typically are scheduled monthly and notice is given as far in advance as possible.

There may be minimal additional time commitments in-between meetings.

We encourage candidates to apply who have a love of American roots music and want to join a fun and committed group of people with shared interests.

Our Mission:
The Four Lakes Traditional Music Collective (FLTMC) is a nonprofit organization in Madison, Wisconsin, exploring and supporting the art of American roots music. We are committed to passing on the diverse history, traditions and culture of the music and inspiring a new generation by creating opportunities for people to enjoy, learn about and make music together.
