Wrap up your holiday shopping and start dreaming of summer. You’ll be glad you did.

Mark your calendar for the 2018 Sugar Maple Music Festival to be held August 3 and 4 at Lake Farm County Park in Madison. Our 15th annual festival promises the music, dancing, friendship and other activities you love, plus even more ways to celebrate this milestone!

While we’re at it, a big thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy our 2017 festival in August. The weather couldn’t have been better as we listened to music on the main stage, got to know artists and traditions on the Roots and Reasons Stage and made music together in the jam tents.

Speaking of 2017 Sugar Maple artists, Molly Tuttle was recently named guitar player of the year by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). Molly, who we also brought to Madison for an intimate show and guitar workshop in January, was the first woman ever to be nominated or win in this category. Congratulations, Molly!

On the topic of award-winning 2017 Sugar Maple artists, we heard from Laurie Lewis after her incredible August performances on our stages. In a note she said “it was a treat for me …. to sit and talk with Bill Malone (on the Roots and Reasons Stage)” then she added … “thank you for all you do to help build and nurture community through music.”

We think Laurie said it well. Thanks to all of you – music fans, sponsors, donors, volunteers and more – for helping build and nurture community through music. It takes every single one of you to help make our community – and the festival – what it is.

Sincere thanks for a successful 2017 Sugar Maple Music Festival. What will Sugar Maple 15 bring?

— The Four Lakes Traditional Music Collective

Baby needs a new pair of shoes! Well, there are no baby shoes, but there are a lot of other really cool prizes for you to win this weekend during the Sugar Maple Music Festival.

We are running two types of raffles this weekend – 50/50 and prize raffles

50/50 RAFFLES
We will do one 50/50 raffle on Friday and two on Saturday. You must be present to win. Half the money gathered goes to the winner and the other half to supporting the Sugar Maple Music Festival. We will do three drawings for the 50/50 raffle – one on Friday evening and two on Saturday.

TICKET PRICE: $2 for an arm-length. This can be your arm or the arm of the really tall guy standing next to you.

PRIZE RAFFLES
This is your chance to win gifts from an amazing list of area businesses (see below). We will do three drawings for prizes during the festival (see schedule below).

You may use your tickets in any way you like. You can put them all in one bowl for the prize you cannot live without, or you can mix it up and take a shot at winning any number of prizes.

Each prize raffle will be worth no less than $200 (and some are much more!)

TICKET PRICE – $5 for one, $10 for three, $20 for eight

Now THAT is a return on your investment!

This year’s festival is August 4-5 at our usual, beautiful, Lake Farm County Park.  Tickets are on sale, but volunteers receive free entry on the day they volunteer — it’s a great deal. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the festival!

Underground Butcher will be at Sugar Maple Fest serving gourmet sandwiches made with locally sourced ingredients and special toppings. Here’s a peek at what you might find on their menu at the festival.

static1.squarespace

the FRENCH EXIT
Pleasant Ridge Reserve, Underground Salami, Dijon & aioli

the SMOKED BRISKET
Our Texas-style slow smoked brisket with pickles on Madison Sourdough sandwich bread

the HAM & CHEESE
Smoked ham, Hook’s Cheddar, Clem’s spicy mustard, pickled onions, aioli and greens on house focaccia

the SAUSAGE SANDWICH
Fried egg, breakfast sausage, jam, pickled onions and mixed greens with ‘nduja vinaigrette on house focaccia

the PICKLE & EGG
Seasonal pickles with hardboiled egg, spicy aioli, Widmer’s brick cheese and greens on house focaccia

the FRIED COTTO
Cotto salami with baby Swiss, spicy pepper mustard and cornichons on focaccia

As you can see, the Underground Butcher Shop sandwich menu is an education it itself. It’s full of interesting ingredients, such as ‘nduja (doo-yah) vinaigrette (vin-uh-GRET), dressing made with spreadable Italian pork sausage; cornichons (kor-nee-SHOHN), a.k.a. mini pickles; and aioli (EYE-oh-lee), garlic mayonnaise. It’s okay if you haven’t heard of them before. It’s extraordinary fare. So if you’re looking for a little edible adventure, treat yourself to a sandwich from Underground Butcher and pat yourself on the back if you learn something new. When you’re in Madison, visit Underground Butcher Shop at 811 Williamson Street for sandwiches, sausages, fresh meats, cheeses, and charcuterie (shar-koo-TREE)—that’s French for cold cuts—which you can take home to make fancy sandwiches of your own.
