Mike Compton Solo Show @ Cafe Carpe Wed

Mike Compton will be playing a VERY rare solo performance at the Cafe Carpe, in Fort Atkinson, on Wednesday, Sept 21st (8pm). Mike will be playing and singing tunes off of his soon to be released solo record, including many of his unreleased original tunes.

You’ve probably heard Mike’s mastery of the mandolin from his work on two award winning projects: “Oh Brother Where Art Thou?” and “Down From the Mountain”. And maybe you’ve caught him with The John Hartford String Band (or maybe with John himself!), The Nashville Bluegrass Band, or with Elvis Costello. But unless you live in Australia, you’ve probably not seen his solo show.

Now’s your chance!

The Carpe is in downtown Fort Atkinson, right off the Rock River and features excellent food, great beers and a great sounding, intimate listening room. Seating is very limited at the Carpe so reservations are recommended.

Joe Mullins (2011 Sugar Maple artist) will be on the air tomorrow morning at 10:15 with Chris Powers of the Mud Acres Bluegrass Special on WORT-FM (89.9). Joe will be talking about his upcoming appearance with the Radio Ramblers at the Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival. Be sure to tune in!

The 8th Annual Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival is getting close and we need you in our hardworking, totally loved, fleet of volunteers. Whether you are interested in selling tickets, floating around doing a variety of tasks, helping at the merch table or giving folks the skinny on the parking lot, we have a place for you!

If you are interested, please (with sugar on top and all over the place) email Stephanie Ramer. All volunteers are rewarded with a festival t-shirt, but they do buy their own ticket for the festival.

The festival is put on soley by volunteers who generously donate their time and right now is the perfect time to join us. Email us to join a committee and help us get the 8th annual fest rolling!

The Four Lakes Traditional Music Collective would like to thank everyone for making 2010 the most attended year ever. We officially sold out for the first time in our seven years!

Special thanks to our volunteers who we literally could not do the fest without. Thanks to all the bands for their fantastic performances. Thanks to our sponsors for their kind contributions. Thanks to the park staff for their hospitality. Thanks to our vendors for keeping us fat with food. Thanks to my fellow board members (and über volunteers) for their tireless efforts (which includes putting up with yours truly). And last but certainly not least, thanks to our patrons, who share our love of the music.

Line-up Update!

Unfortunately, Hazel Dickens is facing health problems, and her doctor has advised her not to do any traveling for a while. She will not be able to appear at the festival in 2008. Hazel is in good spirits and regrets that she will not be able to appear at the festival this year. Please keep Hazel in your thoughts. We will be asking participants at this year’s festival to help send their best wishes to Hazel for a speedy recovery.
